The Tax Collector's Office collects real property taxes, motor vehicle taxes and personal property taxes. Sewer use and hook-up charges are also billed and collected from this office. Questions regarding sewer use and hook-up charges should be directed to the WPCA Administrator at 203-431-2734.
Taxes are assessed by the Tax Assessor and then billed by the Collector and they fund governmental expenses for the fiscal year July 1st to June 30th.
We have no separate tax for educational purposes. Taxes are based on an assessed value determined by the Tax Assessor. This assessment is then multiplied by the Town's mill rate. As of July 1, 2011 the mill rate is 20.61 mills for every $1,000.00 of assessed value.
Please Note: It is the responsibility of the property owner to contact the Tax Collector’s office if you have not received a tax bill. According to State Statutes, failure to receive a tax bill does not remove the obligation to remit taxes and the accrued interest charges. If you have paid off your mortgage or resume paying your own taxes please contact the Tax Collector's office to obtain a bill.

We are also pleased to offer residents the chance to pay by a variety of credit cards through our office. Please note that there is a fee to Nationwide Payments Solutions for this service of approximately 2.45% of the payment.  is accepted for tax payments only and there is a flat fee of $3.95 for with a debit card using a Visa Consumer Check Card. Payments are accepted in our office and by phone.
